Cultivating fresh eyes

Cultivating fresh eyes is not a new concept. If you look at my blogroll you will find that most of the writers there talk about it in so many ways. Fresh eyes expands your perspective, your awareness and your current state of mind. Cultivating fresh eyes, helps you look at your life, your right now in a deep and appreciative way. Fresh eyes = beginner's mind = out-of-the-box thinking, they are all one and the same. Here's one way to cultivate fresh eyes.

Looking at the same-old with new eyes

1. Become aware of what you are feeling right now. ( Is it anger, frustration, sorrow, grief, irritation, restlessness, happiness, joy, gladness, gratefulness? Is it something else? What is it? )

2.  Become aware of your body. What is the automatic activity it is involved in at this moment? (Maybe your feet are shaking vigorously, your hands are tapping the desk you are sitting on? Is it something else? What is it?)

3. Rest easy in the feelings ("ahh this is how anger/frustration/sorrow/_____ feels like! Hello there") and calm the automatic physical activity

4. Take a breath-in and out, and look at your surroundings, slowly becoming aware of the spaces in between  the objects all around you.

5. Go back to what you were doing

6. Repeat every now and then (perhaps every hour or more?).
